Help · the Index

How to read your Index.

It is one number from 0 to 100, and it answers one question: how much of the AI shelf do you occupy? Not whether your product is good, and not whether you have earned a badge. Those are different questions with their own answers.

01 What the number is

Presence, on a log scale.

We ask neutral buying questions many times, in several wordings, across three web-grounded assistants. Your Index is the fraction of those answers that name your brand, mapped onto 0–100.

So an Index of 58 does not mean “58% of answers”. The scale is logarithmic, which means doubling your presence is worth roughly the same number of points wherever you start — between 11 and 15 points. On a linear scale a brand already in half the answers would gain twenty-two times more than a small brand for the same relative effort, and the number would measure size instead of work.

The full formula, the parameters and the arithmetic are published: the AIProof Index.

02 Why it never travels alone

A high number can mean two opposite businesses.

In our sealed round one brand sits at 63 appearing in a single category; another at 78 appearing in all six. Almost the same Index, opposite situations: the first is a specialist the assistants associate with one need, the second is a generalist they name everywhere.

That is why the screen always shows how many categories name you next to the number, and your badge status beside it. If you ever see the Index quoted alone, it is being quoted wrong — including by us.

A specialist is not losing. A low Index with a strong position in one category is a perfectly good business, and often a better one than a thin presence spread over six. The number measures shelf space, not health.

03 The rank and the percentile

What “#14 of 33” is counting.

33 is the number of brands the round named at least once — not every brand that exists, and not every brand we asked about. A brand the assistants never named has no row at all, because “never named” and “not measured” are different facts and we do not merge them.

The percentile is the share of measured brands below you. Alongside it the screen shows the programme median and upper quartile, because a rank without the spread does not tell you whether the gap above you is one point or forty.

Ties share a place. Two brands on the same Index both get the same number, and the next brand is not the one after it. Breaking a tie alphabetically would invent a difference the measurement does not contain.

04 What moves it, and what cannot

Being named more. That is the whole list.

  • It rises when assistants name you more often in the questions we ask. That is the legitimate channel and it is the point.
  • It is not zero-sum. If assistants start naming more brands per answer, everyone’s Index rises — because more brands are in fact being recommended. We deliberately do not publish share of voice, which can only rise for you by falling for someone else.
  • It does not move because you paid. The calculation takes three sealed inputs and your plan is not one of them. Paying keeps your badge current; it cannot change a measurement.
  • It cannot earn you a badge. The badge needs agreement across assistants and across wordings, from unrelated sources. Presence alone never clears it.
  • It has no trend yet. One sealed round is a photograph. Your Index carries its date and no arrow. A rise or a fall starts existing at the second round.
